What are the materials of die steel
There are many kinds of die steel materials, which can be divided into several categories according to different application needs and performance requirements. Among them, carbon steel is one of the most common mold steels, mainly composed of iron and carbon. In addition, there are die steels designed for specific needs, such as chrome hot work die steels and high alloy hot work die steels. Chromium hot work die steel has good comprehensive mechanical properties, high thermal rigidity, resistance to cold and heat fatigue and resistance to liquid metal erosion, which is suitable for forging die, aluminum alloy die casting die and hot extrusion die. The high alloy hot work die steel is represented by the traditional tungsten hot work die steel, such as 3Cr2W8V, which is suitable for the mold with higher working temperature.
In addition to these traditional die steel materials, some new die steels are also used in modern die manufacturing, such as high-speed steel and super high-speed steel. These materials have a high compressive strength/hardness ratio, and the hardness can be selected between HRC60-70, which is suitable for molds with high hardness requirements. In addition, powder die steel is also widely used because of its excellent wear life and moderate hardness (HRC60-62).
